History

Cargair Ltd. was founded in 1961 with the Prud’homme family acquiring ownership in 1968. Over the years, the company has grown such that it now includes two distinct bases in the Montreal area offering:

• Two Flight Training Schools in Mascouche and St-Hubert with a large fleet of Cessna and Piper aircraft;
• Charter division under the banner of Max Aviation Inc. with a fleet of 6 King Air B100;
Authorized Cessna parts dealer.

Determined to grow and to train pilots for the company’s other divisions, Mr. O. Guy Prud’homme acquired a small Flight Training School in Joliette, Quebec in 1988. Following the subsequent acquisitions of competitors in 1992 and in 1994, Cargair became the largest Flight Training School in Quebec, with a fleet of 24 Cessna and 3 Piper Aztec aircraft. Furthermore, with the purchase of the operation in Mascouche, Cargair became an authorized Cessna parts dealer.

The two flight training schools have enabled Cargair to hire its top graduates as instructors who would in turn become co-pilots on the Beechcraft King Air for Max Aviation. At Cargair, training is based on the day to day reality of a professional pilot, since many students will eventually work for the company.

Cargair’s commitment to a well run operation in terms of management and safety is demonstrated by the fact that a member of the family is found at every strategic level of the company. The head offices are located in St-Hubert, at one of the flight training schools. Here your will find the office of the President and shareholder of the company since 2007, Mrs. Josée Prud’homme. Mrs. Josée Prud’homme holds a diploma in administration and is also a licensed lawyer

In order to ensure the safe and effective daily operations, the President and Vice-President work in close collaboration with all their employees, and benefit from the immeasurable experience of each one. The Chief Flight Instructor at the school in St-Hubert, Mrs. Lorraine Dumont, is one of the most experienced instructors in the province of Quebec, with more than 15 000 hours of flight instruction.

Pierre Prud’homme Roy, Vice-President and Director of Maintenance, the nephew of O. Guy Prud’homme, is a shareholder of the company and has been working within the company for more than 26 years. Mr. Pierre Prud’homme Roy ensures strict adherence to Transport Canada regulations, and oversees that all required work on the aircraft comply with manufacturer standards. Safety is the most important aspect of his and his team’s work.
